A slate re-roof
from strip-off to finish.

The installation photographs are shown in the order the visible work progressed, followed by three views of the finished roof.

Stage 1Roof opened in sections
The old covering is carefully removed so the exposed roof area and accessible parts underneath can be checked as work progresses.
Stage 2Membrane and battens fitted
A new breathable layer and fresh battens create the prepared base before the slate covering is laid back across the roof.
Stage 3Main slope prepared
The batten layout continues across the main roof slope, ready for the covering to be installed in measured courses.
Stage 4Slating reaches the valley
The slate covering is installed across the prepared roof while the valley and surrounding junctions are brought towards their finished detail.

The finished views show the completed slate courses, chimney junction and valley from several angles. The photographs were taken from the scaffold before it was removed.

A finished photograph shows the appearance of a roof, but the installation photographs help explain the weatherproof system below it. New membrane, correctly spaced battens and careful setting out all matter before the final covering is completed.

During strip-off, we can also see parts of the roof that were hidden by the old covering. If an unexpected concern becomes visible, it can be discussed before additional work is agreed.
