Natural slate, clay tiles and concrete tiles create very different roofs. Suitability depends on structure, pitch, exposure and planning—not simply which covering looks best in a photograph.

Quarried natural slate has subtle differences in texture, tone and thickness. Skilled grading and accurate setting out turn that variation into a controlled, distinctive roof.
— Profile and colour choice
Roof tiles can provide stronger profiles, a broader colour range and practical interlocking systems. Product choice varies from small traditional plain tiles to larger modern profiles.
— Changing the covering
A covering change can affect more than appearance and should not be accepted without property-specific checks.
The existing structure should be assessed when the replacement has a materially different weight.
Minimum pitch, headlap and exposure rules differ between slate and tile products.
Listed buildings, conservation areas and material changes may need official confirmation.
